This has to be one of the shortest demos I have played through in a long time. I completed the demo in the span of 10 to 15 min. but never the less here what I thought about it. Off the bat the main character and setting seemed very tongue and cheek in a Indiana Jones kinda of way. It didn't take itself seriously I mean come on, you have a flying jet pack. Anyways your main character looks like straight out of crimson skies games and your friend is wearing nothing but a golden necklace and some sort of shorts with some Aztec gold jewelry on his arms. You step outside with your gas powered gun and see this huge canyon with some weird alien force field in the center as the demo progresses your friend radio's you on how to use your jet pack. The main character seems to give some laughable commentary as you learn your controls and in a way he does remind me a bit of Nathan Drake from the Uncharted games. The graphics are very nice and was built and used by the unreal 3 engine from epic. I am not sure what they did to to it but judging from the demo it looks good, clean, crisp, and shiny. As you fly around you start by shooting some turrets first with your guns attached to your jet-pack. Simple enough and easy to control but then they throw in some spaceships at you. That was a bit harder then I had expected, as you fire your guns and try to maneuver and it was kinda hard at that point to get use to the controls. I am sure if someone had some time with it the controls would be fine and would probably get used to it but for the benefits of this demo I kinda sucked at it lol.
So you face 3 spaceships and took those out, and the demo then progresses you do some land combat fighting. As you hover and land your controls turn into Gears of War style of controls and the thing is from what I got you are only able to hold one gun and a grenade. You can swap your main gun for another but you can't have two guns with you which was a bit weird but I go along with it. As I said suddenly this becomes gears of war style controls as you take cover and pop up and shoot some aliens and pop back into the cover. You go inside the compound and into the main area where you just got to destroy something and then head out. The enemies you encounter reminds me of these mechanical blue aliens.................*coughhalo3elietescough* whoa where that came from must of been something I ate. But yea as soon as you destroy what ever you need to destroy the whole thing starts exploding and you jet pack away into a cut scene where it shows people trying to escape but this big mechanical crab looking thing comes out and shoots it down along side the poor bastards trying to distract it and got blown away. wait let me correct myself, one got blown away the other got stepped on. then the demo ends with pictures and background music. Like I said this was a very short demo and it shed light on what the game could offer in the retail version which comes out Jan. 19 of this month. We just have to keep an eye on it to see how it goes.
