For people who been playing this demo for a while I been hearing lots of good things about it. As a person who has seen and heard of Bad Company I took it upon myself to try out the demo and at first it was pretty fucking hard....
Getting my ass kicked every turn I make and dying a lot more then I should but overtime I got use to it and figured out how to play this game. Battlefield Bad Company 2 takes place after the events from the 1st game and what the guys making the game are saying, DICE, that there will be more emphasis on the story instead of another lame blame military shooter story that tends to happen to every other military game. I really liked the trailers they put out for the first one and comedy that was in it. Thing is with Battlefield Bad Company 2 is that the new trailers are more darker and serious along the lines of what a Call of Duty would put out there.
The demo puts you in a the cold snowy place where it looks like its takes place in some sort of constructions zone. Buildings half finished, holes in the ground, warehouses a bountiful. You start off by choosing the 4 different classes, either choosing the Medic, Sniper, Solider, and or the Engineer. Each class plays different to its role and have different weapon layouts and commands. For example the Medic of the group carries a pistol and a heavy machine gun. He has the command to take out chest paddles by pressing the right thumb stick and going over to a fallen friend and zap him back to life. He also haves the ability to deploy med kits to everyone but only 3 at a time. The way you select your spawn point is very much like in Battlefield 2, the PC game that came out years ago before bad company, and select either to follow a teammate and spawn where he is or to the nearest home base to you. I played all the other classes and each one feels different from each other in the demo. Sniper feels like whenever I used the sniper rifle that it was kinda loose in aiming but the cool idea about it is that when you shoot from far away you have to take in the account that your bullet will not be pin point accurate as the bullet will move a bit in the wind. Think of the way it was in the sniper mission in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, basically the same thing. The engineer is quite unique as he can repair vehicles as well as destroy them with his rocket launcher. The solider of the group is your run and gun guys who just want to come in and shoot first and die later.
The way you gain new weapons in the game is very much the same as how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set up where you gain experience points through helping your guys out as well as kills, seeing the +10 or +20 or whatever. Overtime you gain enough exp to level up and unlock new weapons, upgraded abilities and what not to help you win your match. The weapon layout for Bad Company is pretty good though as you look through what you could unlock making the player more excited to play that role to unlock more weapons with every match. As I pointed out this game feels and plays like Battlefield 2 and the amount of skill is pretty steep going into the demo. It took me a few days to get used to the play style and skill of the players in the game but for a person who has not played the last several Battlefields it was quite a wake up call ass kicker. There is only one game type in the demo and that is called Rush. Where you got the offensive team trying take over the bases while you have a defensive team trying to defeat them for a certain amount of time. They are 6 bases overall in the demo and when the 1st two have been taken over the defensive team moves on to the next pair of bases to defend.
The vehicles in the game felt exactly like the controls it did for Battlefield 2 did. You one stick for driving and the other stick to aim your turret for the tank, you can fly a helicopter, get on a ATV and much more. As each vehicles felt different to their own rights it does remind me the type of skill you need to even steer these mammoth machines. Its like the same skill when I entered the demo, I sucked completely at first but eventually you get use to the type of skill to everyone and same goes with the driving the vehicles just if you are a first time with a battlefield game the skill curve is pretty steep for a newb. Then again everyone had to their ass kicked before we can learn.
The graphics of the demo really was defined and good. Sure they might not live up to Call of Duty standards but it’s just as good with every bullet, tree, shot, and the entire environment. The only thing different from the art style that this game has and Call of Duty has is that when you blow up wall and concrete it really shows in game the damage you have done. Blasting through a wall in pursuit of one guy never felt so good. The controls can be set to your play styles weather you been playing Call of Duty or if you been playing halo 3, the controls are customizable and you can adjust any way so I had no problem with the controls playing the game.
Overall this demo shows alot of promise for Bad Company 2, the controls are good and can be adjusted, graphics are pretty good, they lay out system is shown to you what you can achieve with each class, multiple class types, and that old school battlefield 2 pc feel it had back then even on a xbox 360. If you are wanting to try something new or take a break from Call of Duty for a bit I highly suggest you check this out.
