Ugh, sorry for the delays (college midterms, getting acquainted with my first professional job, etc), but I figure best late than never. Last week, I headed up to the same GameStop (off of Greenback and Garfield) to see how things were going for the midnight release; business as usual.
It wasn’t anything like the Gears release, but was still able to draw a crowd of more… quiet folk to its gathering; somewhere around thirty-five customers or so and extending to nearly fifty once the clock struck twelve. Not to say it was bad though; the staff and I had a good time shootin’ the breeze as we waited for midnight to draw ever nearer. While it was… dryer than the Gears launch, it still felt very homey and cozy with several customers bringing their own chairs, blankets, snacks and 3DS’s to keep themselves occupied.
Of course, it wasn’t as hyped up because it was a bunch of gamers with not much else to do that night, but I have to say, it was far from boring. Other than though, I hate to say it but there wasn’t much else to be said about the event. It’s not as though they could’ve run anything beforehand (like a “see how long it takes before you die” challenge for Demons’ Souls, the predecessor to Dark Souls released on the same night) and the only real way people could’ve killed time was to just chill out at the front of the store.
Tonight though, the same location is having a Batman themed party and costumes are encouraged, but not required. It should be a lot of fun and there may be some special events planned for the evening tonight. As a personal recommendation, for the Batman release tonight to bring some popcorn because they just may play some of the older movies from the Batman Movie Collection to kill some time. The staff here is well informed of their products, they promote a friendly atmosphere and they throw bitchin' parties; so be sure to check out the store if you're in the Sacramento area!
