Well we all attended to Sac anime 2010 winter in Sacramento, California as our first big anime con coverage. It was 3 days worth of panels, artist, cosplayers, dealers hall, video games, and so much more. The one thing that surprised me at this con was that there wasn't any major drama or craziness like some other people tend to do at anime conventions. All of the people there at sac anime both cosplayers, attendees, staff, and visitors were really mature. That or all of the craziness was kept under wraps and away from the public which I probably have to thank the Sac Anime con security for keeping it very low key with those type of issues. The event where this was held, the radison hotel, Sac anime used more of the hotel this time around then last time. They heard everyone's complaints that the hallways were too crowded, the artist were put in a bad place, and bad placement of other stuff. Sac anime staff recognize this and used more of the hotel space that the hotel had so instead of the game room being in the hallway the put it in a big room near by and that was a good move on their part. The placement of the artist alley though was a bit puzzling. They were tuck away in a small corner of the anime convention where I didn't see them till day 2. Now from what I heard and saw that the artist alley looked very small in that corner and when someone wanted to talk or buy something everyone would cramp there be body to body squeezing people in. Something Sac Anime should work on next time around, I did like the few artist in the lobby area right next to the cafeteria along side other booths. That was a good idea and did like but the issue of that was more or less people stopping to talk or buy stuff. So its still a problem but make place some of the artist in the dealers hall maybe? Speaking of which the dealers hall was wider and a bit bigger, there was more room to walk and buy things. The usual crew of anime dealers were there and the prices vary from 5 to however so high the other vendors were. I like how the dealers hall was set up the only thing I ask if for water fountains or uh somewhere you can get water in the dealers room and maybe there was some and I didn't see it but overall the dealers hall was great. The hallways this time around were a lot more space and traffic kept going either one way or another, thanks to the security and staff to keep it moving was a great idea. My only gripe was that when we were all sitting next to the cafertia near the front just us chilling out we were asked to move to a different location. My guess it had to be the hotel saying that because before the staff weren't saying anything to else.
now the events that took place, the panels, the rave, the concert with the slants and Repo, and the main attraction of the masquerade were all fine events but each one had its up and downs.
The panels with the gusts were the events that went really well. Not a lot of effort does need to go into a panel but the con goers and gusts were polite and raised their hand as everyone had fun in the panels.
The rave was one of the weakest events I been to for the times I been to Sac Anime. Getting was tought but luckily I was early enough to line up but once inside the audio problems tend to pop up for the 1st hour as the music would be great one min and then the next it is low and everyone is standing around looking at the DJ. This should of been taken care of more properly but after the hour it did get going but even then the song mixes were very odd and lackluster. There were a few good ones, but it still wasn't to par to previous raves Sac Anime had. So whatever Sac Anime did for the last rave do it again for the next time around. I love going to the rave but please make it better.
The concert's and Repo concert were good, but as I have heard from friends that went the stage wasn't big enough for the for the bands to perform to their fullest. Not to say they did have a great time for everyone and the fans did enjoy the performances. The entire time the concerts were going on it was crowded which is to be expected and everyone is standing the whole time so people who were sitting down were not able to see the concert but overall everyone was able to hear the music and still have a good time even with these errors. Suggestion use some projectors to show the bands playing for people in the back who can't see them.
The masquerade was a the main dish for events. Here is a vlog of my thoughts were about the masquerade.
The game room was set in a good place away where there were lots of open room and a good array of games and consoles. It was set up like it was in the place it used to be in the last Sac Anime where all the consoles were on the walls of the room but the difference is this time around is that not only did they have a full open room for gaming but next door they had another big room for people who want to play card games. This is one of the best ways to use the hotel more then the main building, why try to stuff everything in one building when you can use the whole hotel. Sac Anime Staff I do approve of this move.
Overall this was our first Anime convention for coverage for our site and even with a few things wrong with the con we still had a blast. We thank Sac Anime for inviting us for attending and for letting us experiences a great time at Sac Anime. We hope we will come back again for summer and beyond! And I leave you with the pictures of cosplayers from the convention.
